AMS Case Study – Vancouver International Airport

AMS Case Study - Vancouver International Airport

Background

Hi-Lite has serviced the Vancouver International Airport (YVR) for more than seven years in a variety of projects ranging from rubber removal to installing methyl methacrylate (MMA) and AirMark specialty markings. Recently, Hi-Lite performed two RESA (Runway Extension Safety Area) painting projects through general contractor Westpro Infrastructure Ltd. In 2017, YVR became the first airport in Canada to implement Hi-Lite Systems’ PA2 (Predictive Airfield Assessment). PA2 compliments the already robust airfield inspection program at the airport where airside officers patrol the airfield on a daily basis looking out for discrepancies. Currently, Hi-Lite is using the PA2 (Predictive Airfield Assessment) model at YVR to generate markings data, identify safety hotspots and plan future work plans though the AMS long-term contract.

Solution

In order to enhance the airside inspection program, YVR has implemented the PA2 by Hi-Lite Systems. Hi-Lite conducted the PA2 airfield markings assessment in the Summer of 2017. By doing the assessment, Hi-Lite experts provided YVR with a comprehensive report including retro-reflectivity data and the current state of the airfield markings. The PA2 assessment was able to identify safety hotspots needing remediation to meet TP 312 Sixth Edition standards. In addition, Hi-Lite provided YVR a painting work plan for 2018 and the remainder of 2017.

Outcome

“A robust airfield assessment and inspection program is all about information for the airfield manager, that information identifies risks on the airfield which in turn can prioritize where resources are deployed to address those risks; therefore, saving the organization money, wasted effort, and endeavoring to make sure they are continuously in compliance to standards,” mentions Brett Patterson, Director, Airside Operations for Vancouver Airport Authority. Hi-Lite is using the PA2 assessment to plan maintenance mobilizations, addressing any critical areas of need, while reducing runway downtime considerably.
