AMS+ Case Study - Prince Mohammad Bin Abdulaziz International Airport (MED)
Background
TIBAH Airports Development Co. (a joint Venture of TAV, Saudi Oger and Al Rajhi) inaugurated Mohammad Bin Abdulaziz International Airport (MED) on July 2, 2015. The airport was the first to be constructed under a Public Private Partnership in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. In order to bring the airport to international standards and address ICAO Annex 14 Aerodrome Certification, TIBAH and Hi-Lite began conversations for a partnership. Following commencement of operations TIBAH recognized the need for a comprehensive maintenance plan such as the one offered by Hi-Lite under the Airfield Maintenance Services (AMS) umbrella.
Solution
Given their local presence in Saudi Arabia and global airfield maintenance expertise, Hi-Lite approached MED with a proposal for a long-term airfield maintenance solution. As a result, the companies formed a strategic partnership to keep the airport in compliance with the latest international requirements and positioned Hi-Lite to manage the daily maintenance needs of the facility.
Hi-Lite dispatched staff and machinery from the United States to set up operations, as well as adding local employees and providing training on airfield maintenance activities. Initially, Hi-Lite performed an ICAO Annex 14 airfield assessment. Currently the scope of work is under a 24/7 operations schedule performing ICAO aerodrome assessments, measuring reflectivity readings, conducting daily operational inspections, applying airfield markings, removing runway rubber and more.
Outcome
With operations established and recruitment of local personnel, Hi-Lite has kept MED in total compliance with GACA/ICAO regulations by upholding ICAO Annex 14 Standards and Recommended Practices (SARPs). While upgrading MED, the Hi Lite team will continue performing activities in the scope of work and completing additional work orders assigned by TIBAH. Hi-Lite is proud to have a global team working at one of the most transited airports in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The Hi-Lite professionals and technicians working at Medina come from over 16 different countries. In summary, Hi-Lite is committed to delivering the highest safety standards to MED and maintain compliance at the airfield.
